Alex Borg won his all-Maltese clash with Aaron Busuttil to secure a place in the last 32 of the IBSF World Championships in Hurghada, Egypt.

The Malta champion was joined by Brian Cini who battled past Indian player Varun Mardan 4-3.

Borg, who had a run of 62 in his 4-2 victory over Busuttil, faces home player Yaser Elsherbiny today in a best-of-nine encounter while 15-year-old Chinese youngster Yuan Sijun stands between Cini and a berth in the last 16.

In the Masters, Ivan Attard advanced to the last 32 without picking up his cue after his Egyptian opponent, Wessam Boctor, pulled out as he was unwell.

Attard plays UAE player Mohammed Al Joaker today.

Jason Peplow and Simon Zammit have also made it through to the Masters round of 32.

Zammit will take on Maged Shafik (Egypt) while Peplow will play Munier Cassim (South Africa).
