Two Romanians were each jailed two years today after they admitting to stealing various jewellery items from a shop in Victoria in August.
Mandea Florica, 25, and Feraru Georgeta, 48 were accused of aggravated theft exceeding €2,397 from Tresor D’Or Jewellery on August 26.
The Romanians had arrived in Gozo on August 25, crossed to Malta after the burglary and left the island a day later.
Security footage showed a shop assistant being distracted while the thieves helped themselves to gold and silver items. Subsequently, the police issued an international arrest warrant which led to the Romanians' return under arrest.
The case was heard at the Gozo court before Magistrate Joe Mifsud. Inspectors Josric Mifsud and Frank Anthony Tabone led the prosecution.
