Cleverley: Tom Cleverley is poised to make his Everton first-team return against former club Aston Villa on Saturday, with Toffees boss Roberto Martinez having declared the midfielder fully fit. Cleverley, who was on loan at Villa from Manchester United last season before joining the Toffees over the summer, has been working his way back from an ankle injury sustained in August.

USA held: The USA were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Trinidad but the point was enough to keep them top of their World Cup group and on course for a place in the final round of regional qualification. Gyasi Zardes hit the bar with a header shortly after the break and Jermaine Jones saw his shot parried onto the woodwork by keeper Jan-Michael Williams late in the second half.

Kiyotake: Hannover midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his foot while training with Japan. The 26-year-old missed the Samurai Blues’ 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Cambodia on Tuesday after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during training. Kiyotake missed three months of action after breaking a different metatarsal in June.

FIFA action: Kuwait look set to be kicked out of World Cup qualifying after failing to resolve a case of government interference in their local football association before Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Myanmar. The Kuwait FA were suspended from FIFA last month because of the issue, three days after they drew 0-0 at home to Lebanon in a World Cup qualifier.
