Everton have announced a record turnover but post-tax loss for the 2014-15 season.

In a statement of accounts released yesterday, the Toffees said their total turnover had increased from £120.5 million in 2013-14 to £125.6 million.

That was despite a £3.1 million reduction in broadcast revenue from £84.8 million to £81.7million – in a season they finished 11th in the Premier League compared to fifth a year earlier.

Sponsorship, advertising and merchandising income rose by £2 million.

PSG are playing away next Wednesday against Malmo in the Champions League, and Lyon host KAA Gent a night earlier.

UEFA said it is “working closely with the home clubs to ensure measures are in place to guarantee safety for all involved”.

Neymar seeks tax assurances

Neymar’s father and agent will seek legal and tax assurances for his son before the Brazil captain commits his long-term future to Barcelona.

Neymar senior claims his son could be forced to leave Barca once his current contract ends, if the player continues to be a target of tax authorities.

“We’ve begun contract renewal talks, but there are outstanding issues that concern us, and which need to be resolved,” Neymar senior said.

“We will respect the contract with Barca but regarding the contract extension, we need a deal that gives us peace of mind.”

Dinamo Zagreb chief arrested

Zdravko Mamic, the chief executive of Croatian team Dinamo Zagreb, was arrested yesterday for inflicting financial damage on the club through dubious transfers.

State television said Mamic was arrested for an alleged $11.2 million worth of damage suffered by the club related to suspect player transfers.

According to reports, four other people were also arrested, while Dinamo Zagreb said on its website that an anti-corruption police unit had entered the club premises in early morning.

Zdravko Mamic and his brother Zoran, who is Dinamo’s coach, were previously detained in July for questioning over embezzlement and tax evasion.

Mauri sidelined with back injury

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri will be sidelined for three weeks in order to recover from a herniated disc.

A recurring back problem has limited the former Italy international to just four Serie A starts this season.

A Lazio statement read: “We have decided for Mauri to undergo a non-surgical procedure based on radio frequencies to deal with a herniated disc. After that Mauri will have to rest for a week before he can begin the recovery process.

“Mauri should be back on the pitch in 20 day’s time.”

Mauri, 35, will miss three league games, including the one against Juve on December 4.

Balotelli out for a month after surgery

Mario Balotelli has undergone successful surgery to resolve a groin problem and will be sidelined for four weeks, Milan announced yesterday.

A recurring groin injury has limited the Italy striker to just four appearances since returning to Milan this summer on a season-long loan from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has not featured since a 1-0 defeat to Genoa in September 27.

The former Manchester City striker will return to action in the new year.

Balotelli scored 26 goals in 43 appearances for Milan in his first spell at the club before leaving in the summer of 2014 in a £16m transfer to Liverpool.

United’s Martial suffers foot injury

France’s Manchester United striker Anthony Martial left Wembley Stadium on crutches with his left foot strapped after suffering an injury in the 2-0 friendly defeat by England on Tuesday.

France coach Didier Deschamps did not reveal the extent of the injury to Martial, who was substituted on 67 minutes, but played down concerns it was serious.

Deschamps said: “He got a kick in the penalty area. I think it’s just a knock rather than anything else to the top of his foot.”

United have lost Antonio Valencia (foot) for five months while Michael Carrick (ankle) had to pull out of the France game.
