Former Labour MP Marlene Farrugia this afternoon urged other MPs and the people to speak out and show they are not gullible.

In an interview that will be published in tomorrow's Times of Malta, Dr Farrugia shares her candid views on the current political situation, the changes taking place in the “movement” that led to the resounding Labour victory in 2013 and other changes taking place within the same party.

She says there are other MPs who shared her views but are afraid to speak up. Her message to them, as well as to the people is "stand up and be counted".

She also speaks of her efforts to convince the government to translate its promises into actions as promised.

Dr Farrugia resigned from the Labour Party yesterday after voting with the Opposition on the environment, saying she was after more transparent governance, “particularly in environmental matters”.

She declared she would stay on as an independent MP, after having supported Opposition amendments on the procedures to be followed in the appointment of the chairman and certain board members on the new environment authority.

The Labour Party has missed an opportunity to make a quality leap in governance, she said.

“I will represent the many people who voted for the Labour movement wanting transparent, honest and dignified governance,” said Dr Farrugia.
