Algeria could invest in Malta’s energy sector, according to Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

Addressing a business forum of some 400 Maltese and Algerian entrepreneurs in Algeria today, Mr Sallel said Algerian businesses could provide expertise in alternative, renewable and fossil fuel based energy soltuions.

Algeria has one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, as well as major crude oil stocks.

Mr Sallel said Algerian involvement in the Maltese energy sector could provide an “added value” to its product, through opening new doors to trade with Malta.

Algerian businesses, he said, could also invest in the construction and quarrying industries in Malta, as well as several other industries.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the government had an “unequivocal will” to pursue business ventures with Algeria, and would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to facilitate business between the two countries.

Some 30 Maltese business owners travelled to Algeria to meet with Algerian business leaders, many of who had contacted Trade Malta weeks in advance to schedule appointments.
