The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra is presenting the first in a series of chamber music concerts at the Robert Samut Hall, Floriana, on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm.

The concert, conducted by MPO artistic director Brian Schembri, will feature two Baroque concertos, flanked by two worksoffering a 20th-century salute to Bach.

Roberta Attard and Fiona Giambra will join forces in a performance of Bach’s Double Concerto in D minor, which will no doubt characterise the subtle yet expressive relationship between the two violins.

MPO’s principal harpist, Britt Arend, will give a delightful rendition of Handel’s Harp Concerto in B-flat major, a work which is rarely performed in Malta.

Webern’s orchestration of Bach’s Fuga (Ricercata) a 6 voci will open the concert while Stravinsky’s masterful Danses Concertantes will bring the evening to a close.

Tickets may be obtained at ticketengine.sjcav.org. MPO loyalty members may call the MPO offices on 2124 4473 for special discounts and direct bookings.
