According to the latest consumer prices of petroleum published by the European Commission, in 20 EU member states, the price of petrol is lower than in Malta. In 18 of them, petrol is priced at lower than €1.32 per litre, which means that if the prices stay the same, they will have cheaper petrol than in Malta even in January 2016, when the reduction here is scheduled to take effect.

The price of diesel is lower than Malta’s in 24 member states. Come January, 22 of them will still have lower prices than Malta.

How much extra profit is Enemed, the State-owned company, making during these weeks and months? Is it not clear that Maltese consumers are being treated as second-class EU citizens?

When did Enemed post its call for tenders or the award of such tenders on the European Union’s TED – Tenders Electronic Daily? Italy, France, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Slovakia and the Netherlands made use of this electronic database on November 12.

Why is Malta not using this EU database? Does it have anything to hide?

What brands and grades of petrol and diesel is Enemed importing into Malta?

The Malta Automobile Club asserts that the importation, storage and sale of petrol and diesel should not be government business. The local representatives of foreign oil companies should be allowed to compete among each other to provide petrol and diesel to consumers at the lowest possible prices.
