• A fundraising bazaar and furniture sale will be held today at Sala Villa, Lija (Main Street) between 9am and 7pm. Proceeds are in aid of the restoration of paintings by Calì found in Lija’s parish church.

• A bazaar will be held at the pastoral centre, Sgħajtar, Naxxar on November 27 from 4.30 to 7.30pm. On November 28 and 29, it will be open from 9am to noon and 4.30 to 8.30pm and 9am to noon respectively.

• A two-day cultural event is being organised by the Japanese Embassy in Rome, the Japan Foundation in Rome, the Malta Japan Association and the Malta University Language School to mark the 50th anniversary of Malta-Japan diplomatic relations at the Magazino Hall, Valletta Waterfront.

The programme opens onFriday with a Japanese Shakuhachi Flute workshop and music collaboration with world-renowned musician and composer Yosuke Irie from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. A Japanese calligraphy workshop will be held between 5.30pm and 7pm, while Kirishima is Going to Quit will be shown at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, the programme includes a lesson in Japanese language and craft- making between 3 and 5pm, a language lounge between 6 and 7pm, while Tsuna hiichatta will be shown at 8pm. Entrance is free.

• An exhibition entitled Convergence – a celebration of Malta’s characteristic landscapes and streetscapes – will be on display at the Italian Cultural Institute, Valletta, until November 21.

Visiting times are Monday-Friday from 10am to 1pm and 2.30 to 5pm. On Saturdays, it is open from 10am to 12.30pm.

• A public talk by Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar on ‘Art and medicine – how disease affects artists and their work’ by Prof. Carmel Mallia will be held on Tuesday at 6.30pm at the Italian Cultural Institute, Valletta.

• The King’s Own Malta Regiment Association is holding a remembrance service for the repose of the souls of members of the Regiment at St Patrick’s church, Sliema, on Friday at 6.30pm. Members, relatives and friends are invited to attend.

• The Mission Fund is organising a tea tombola in aid of Maltese missionaries working in Third World countries today at 3.30pm at Pembroke parish hall. Tickets at €5 (without transport) and €8 (with transport) can be obtained from the Mission Fund at 500, Eureka Court, Blk A/Flt 6, Main Street, Mosta (tel: 2141 3664) or from Speranza Xuereb (tel: 79/2141 0860).  Tickets will be sold at the door (if still available).

• A Mass for the repose of deceased members of the Royal Malta Artillery Association will take place at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery chapel on November 29 at 10am. A wreath-laying ceremony will follow at the site of the Association graves. Members, relatives and friends are invited. Medals and RMA ties are to be worn.
