Youths’ place in today’s family, self-harm, eating disorders, cyber crime and use of illicit substances were among the topics discussed at a seminar on adolescent mental health in Gozo.

Entitled Iż-Żgħazagħ – ir-realtà attwali (Youths – current reality), the Mental Health Association Gozo’s fifth annual conference was held at Villa Fiorita, Marsalforn, under the patronage of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

It was addressed by various mental health professionals including clinical chairman of the Ministry of Health’s Department of Psychiatry Dr Anton Grech, clinical psychologists Dr Edward Curmi and Fr Joseph Farrugia, Christopher Mecieca from Oasi Foundation and a representative from the Police Cybercrime Unit. Their presentations were complemented by the sharing of experiences and the viewing of related videos. Gozo Bishop Mario Grech delivered the concluding speech.

The association donated a painting depicting maternity to the President to be auctioned during this year’s edition of L-Istrina.
