Brian Cini is through to the next round of the World Championship which is currently being played in Hurghada, Egypt.

Yesterday, Cini chalked up his fourth win from as many matches after beating Scotland’s Gary Thomson 4-2 to top Group E.

On Thursday, Cini potted breaks of 97, 84 and 76 on his way to a resounding 4-0 win over Zargouni Zine El Abidine, of Tunisia.

Alex Borg and Aaron Busuttil are also in the running to reach the knock-out phase despite losing one of their three matches.

Borg compiled fine breaks of 84 and 77 in a 4-2 win over Egypt’s Mohammed Hammouda. However, he was unable to extend the momentum to his next Group R fixture as he was beaten by Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli 4-2.

The Malta champion had won his opening match earlier this week.

In Group V, Busuttil came up short against former world champion Muhammad Asif, of Pakistan, and lost 4-2. However, he made up for that upset with a 4-1 victory over Iraq’s Omar Ali for his second win in the qualifying phase which comes to a close tomorrow.

In Hurghada, Jason Peplow, Ivan Attard and Simon Zammit are representing Malta in the World Masters tournament which is also half-way through the qualifying phase.
