Wojciech Szczesny is unconcerned about his future and is happy to wait until after next summer’s European Champion-ship to make any decisions.

The 25-year-old Poland international goalkeeper is currently on loan at Roma after parent club Arsenal let him leave on a temporary deal having made a move for Petr Cech in the summer.

“My future will be decided after the Euros,” he said.

“I love Arsenal, but I’m happy at Roma. I know that Roma want me, but I don’t see why Arsenal would not want me also.”

Chile FA president on medical leave

Chilean FA (ANFP) president Sergio Jadue has taken a 30-day medical leave amid speculation his decision could be linked to the FIFA corruption probe.

Jadue is a CONMEBOL vice-president.

“The ANFP board received this Thursday a medical licence from (its) president Sergio Jadue, who requested a statutory authorisation of 30 days to be absent from his corporative activities,” an ANFP statement said.

Jadue’s Colombian counterpart, Luis Bedoya, resigned unexpectedly from his post this week, citing personal reasons.

Injured Milner eyes return against City

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has set his sights on returning to action in time for the Premier League clash away at former club Manchester City on Nov. 21.

The 29-year-old missed Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League defeat by Crystal Palace on Sunday, their first loss under manager Juergen Klopp.

“It’s always disappointing to miss any games,” Milner said.

“It shouldn’t be too long and hopefully I’ll be back for the next game (against City).”

“You never like to put a time frame on it because it’s a hamstring and they’re always difficult and a bit unpredictable, but hopefully I’ll be alright,” he added.

Bastia boss banned

Bastia president Pierre-Marie Geronimi has been suspended from all official duties for a month over his behaviour to-wards a referee.

The punishment relates to September’s Ligue 1 clash with Lyon at the Stade Gerland, which was refereed by Benoit Bastien.

A disciplinary commission statement on lfp.fr said the case was regarding the “behaviour of Pierre-Marie Geronimi, president of SC Bastia, towards the referee at half-time and the resumption of the second period.”

Bastia lost the game 2-0 and had Francois Kamano sent off just before the interval, the striker being shown a straight red card following an altercation with Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti.

Schubert gets new Gladbach deal

Interim Borussia Moenchengladbach coach Andre Schubert was handed a long-term deal until 2017 yesterday after he led his team to a six-game winning run in the Bundesliga and out of relegation trouble.

The 44-year-old Schubert, a reserve team coach who had only joined in June, took over on Sept. 21 from Lucien Favre, who resigned following a five-game losing start after Borussia finished third last season.

Under Schubert, who was only supposed to be an interim choice, the team won their next six straight league games before drawing 0-0 against Ingolstadt last week, racing from last place to sixth on 19 points.

Steaua great dies

European Cup winner Lucian Balan was found dead in his home yesterday after he committed suicide, his former club Steaua Bucharest said.

“Legendary Lucian Balan has left this world at the age of 56,” Steaua, who became the first eastern European club to win the European Cup in 1986, said in a statement.

“(He) decided to end his days within a month after he lost his mother.”

Balan, who was also instrumental in helping Steaua win the European Super Cup in 1987 and reach the European Cup final again two years later, had previously tried to commit suicide in 2004 and 2010, reports said.

Balan was found dead in his home in Baia Mare.

FIFA panel fines Spanish chief

FIFA’s Ethics Committee said it had fined and warned Spanish football chief and veteran FIFA official Angel Maria Villar over his conduct in relation to its investigation into the contest to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The committee did not go into any details on his conduct or on any particular incident that led to the fine.

Villar said he was happy his name had been cleared of more serious charges.

The World Cup tournaments were awarded to Russia and Qatar respectively by FIFA in December 2010 following a bidding contest which is now being investigated by the Swiss attorney general’s office.
