A swiftly spreading wildfire roared unchecked through Simi Valley, California, local media said.
The so-called Brush Fire, is among scores of blazes that have ravaged the drought-stricken western United States this summer which California fire officials have described as "unheard of fire behavior".
The Brush Fire has consumed about 16,178 hectares ,local media said.
The National Weather Service said the wind may reach 8-24 km/hr, with gusts as high as 40km/hr as warm and dry conditions are expected to last into the weekend.
Fire warnings were issued for Ventura and Los Angeles counties, local media said.
