So after 75 years of not just good but excellent service tothe community we have to say goodbye to the MMDNA since they cannot cope financially any longer.

I have had to use their services for the last 13 years and always without fail, in the blazing heat or dismal cold, they are there all day, every day including feastdays, Sundays and all major holidays including Christmas and New Year.

They always kind, always caring and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble.

Why is it that here in Malta we just cannot leave well alone?

I’ve been told by MMDNA that many of their nurses will now be working with ComCare so some of them might still be visiting us, but that wasn’t what I was toldby ComCare.

I was informed that perhaps some days they will be MMDNA nurses but mostly they will not.

These ladies probably know every street in every district in Malta as they spend all day driving around from one patient to the next; they have also got used to us and our needs and not only that, many of them are like part of the family and do care about our problems and concerns.

In no way am I saying that new nurses won’t be the same but why must we lose these great ladies who have done sterling work throughout all of these years?

Can’t the government make a last ditch effort to save this institution and leave well alone?

We live in hope. In the meantime I want to say a very big thank you to all the nurses I’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the years but especially to Rosette, Frances and Luana.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
