Does anybody know why petards, to mark the Armistice at 11am on November 11, 1918, went on all day on the nearest Sunday (November 8, this year)?

Eleven o’clock in the morning was supposedly the time when the noise of war stopped.

Is somebody – a local council or merely a bored local fireworks enthusiast –responsible for the additional noise that is meant to signify peace?

Or can anybody let off petards at will, for no reason?

Perhaps we could be told what the fireworks rules are.
