The first trailer of Finding Dory, the long expected animated sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo, has been released by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.

Taking place six months after the first film, Dory suddenly recalls her childhood memories and sets out to find her family.

The forgetful blue tang fish, played by Ellen DeGeneres, will once again be accompanied by Nemo, his father Marlin and the tank gang, including Moorish idol Gill, portrayed by Willem Dafoe.

During her search Dory also meets some new characters: white beluga whale Bailey, whale shark Destiny and octopus Hank.

Disney had announced the sequel in 2005 but it was postponed because of disagreements between the two studios. Now, 12 years after the original Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton returns as writer and director.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show was the first to release the trailer today. It already has more than 4 million views.

DeGeneres stated that she has "waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is: it's got a lot more Dory".

Finding Dory will have its international release on June 16, 2016.
