Pauline Galea and Daniela Farrugia from the University’s Department of Geosciences, attended the 36th meeting of the Reducing Earthquake Losses in the Extended Mediterranean Region (RELEMR) in Ravenna, Italy.
During the meeting, Galea presented the latest work done by the department’s Seismic Monitoring and Research Group toward a holistic assessment of seismic risk.
The Ravenna meeting featured keynote lectures by a number of prominent scientists and special sessions on the preservation of cultural heritage sites. It was hosted by the University of Bologna, Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Centro Eventi Estremi e Disastri (EEDIS Italy) and the Italian Ministry of Culture Heritage.
RELEMR is a programme funded mainly by Unesco and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and has been operating for the past 21 years. It brings together scientists and decision makers in the field of earthquake risk representing all countries in southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
RELEMR works to increase cooperation and knowledge transfer between these countries.
