The Malta Institute of Accountants has announced a new online system that will allow accountants to carry out their profession’s mandatory Continuous Professional Education (CPE) hours from the comfort of their own home, at a time that suits them.

To retain their warrant and MIA membership, accountants must undertake at least 25 hours of CPE every year; this ongoing training is intended to help them stay abreast with prevailing technical developments and legislation and also serves to strengthen their accounting skills, management know-how and to keep in line with the latest trends and innovations in business and finance.

The MIA said most accountants work longer than average hours against tight deadlines and as the current system stood, some could find it very hard to catch up on obtaining the required CPE hours.
