We will now have a new waste bag in addition to the black and green bags already in use.
This will be a white-transparent bag and it will be solely for food and kitchen waste like vegetables, onion-peel and all food leftovers, stale bread, fruit and so on.
These are being thrown in the black at present but it will be exchanged for the transparent bag when this comes into force. All well and good.
The only snag is that these bags are to be collected on Mondays and Fridays only, leaving the black ones for daily collection. And what’s inside the black bag?
Nothing that can’t wait a week or so since there’s no food waste at all, nor plastic or paper/carton waste.
So I appeal for a re-think: it is the transparent food bags that need to be collected daily rather than the black ones. Left-over food can’t stay in the kitchen for five days especially in summer when the temperature hits 40 degrees.
