While we tend to blame religion or politics for everything that is irregular under the sun, the case of the burqa has nothing to do with religion. It is a matter of national security.

When one covers one’s face, irrespective of whether it is with a crash helmet or with a garment, others cannot recognise who is under that garment.

Those of us who have travelled to Muslim countries abide by their rules and those few who do not do so risk being severely and inhumanly punished.

So why do some people in our island nation disregard our customs?

How can one defend the 7/7 incident in London when some 147 were massacred and one of the terrorists escaped wearing the burqa? If I were a bank employee, for example, I would be scared if someone wearing the burqa walked into a branch or an office.

So please let us place our national security first. I wish that we would allow common sense to rule and we could keep politics, religion or Xarabank out of the equation.
