Valletta FC striker Federico Falcone was handed a two-match ban yesterday following his sending-off in the 2-2 league draw against Mosta on Tuesday.
Having hogged the limelight for his superb goal in the win over Qormi last month, Falcone caught the eye for the wrong reasons this week as he received a straight red from referee Trustin Farrugia Cann for hitting Ice Cream Guobadia after the Mosta midfielder had fouled the Argentine striker.
The ban rules Falcone out of Valletta’s games against Pembroke and St Andrew’s.
Three other Premier League players were banned one match after collecting a fourth yellow card in the last round of top-flight games.
Naxxar Lions midfielder Mandinho will miss the clash with Qormi tomorrow, Pembroke’s Zoran Levnaic will sit out the game against Valletta, also tomorrow, and Sliema midfielder Mark Scerri is out of the equation for Saturday’s match against Balzan.
Floriana FC president Riccardo Gaucci and Cedric Sciberras, the Pembroke physio, were given a one-match touchline ban following their confrontation during Saturday’s game. Peter Agius, a Floriana official, was also banned for one game after being ordered off the bench during the 2-1 win over Pembroke Athleta.
