Reference is made to the item ‘Vilification laws: law reform is not unconstitutional’ (November 2).

While I confirm that I had met Justice Minister Owen Bonnici to discuss the proposed unconstitutional repeal of the vilification provisions in the Criminal Code, we concluded the meeting by agreeing to disagree on the matter.

Although the minister is quoted as having stated that he was informed by the Attorney General “that we are legally in order”, I have to state for the record that I have never read that advice or been given a copy thereof.

I am, thus, not in a position to rebut such advice unless and until it is rendered public for all to read.

When this is done, I would gladly contribute my reflections thereupon.
