Simon Busuttil is once again trying to create a mountain out of the local council elect-ions molehill.

He said it was not true that this government had given 16-year-olds the right to vote because those who turn 16 now will have to wait until 2019 to vote in the local council elections held together with the election of MEPs. May I remind the leader of the Opposition that under PN governments, all those youths who turned 18 one day after the last electoral register was published, prior to the general election, had to wait five years to vote, until they were 23 years old.

This government introduced the rolling electoral register so that all those who reached the age of 18 up to one day prior to the election were given the right to vote.

Still, all those who miss the cut-off date by even one day have to wait five years in order to vote in a general election.

So what’s all the fuss about?
