A 26-year-old foreigner sustained serious injuries after he was stabbed in Paceville early this morning, the police said.

The man, who resides in Swieqi, was walking in Triq Santu Wistin, in the road up from the Bay Street complex, when the aggressor stabbed him with a sharp and pointed object at 6.55am.

An ambulance was summoned on site to assist the victim. The motive and the identity of the aggressor, who is also believed to be foreign, are not yet known. He fled from the scene straight after the incident.

The victim is not believed to be in critical condition.

No further details are available. The police are investigating.
