The latest scandal revealed by the Audit Office in connection with a trade union lease was only the latest in a series of scandals related directly to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Shadow Justice Minister Jason Azzopardi charged today.

He was referring to the lease of a property owned by the General Workers' Union to Arms Ltd.

Dr Azzopardi had flagged the lease, saying that in terms of the emphyteutical grant of the property to the GWU, the union could only sub-lease it to companies in which it had a majority shareholding.

Dr Azzopardi told a press conference today that the prime minister has once again been found guilty of omission and should assume political responsibility.

"This is not a genuine mistake. This was a deliberate plan to let the GWU breach its legal obligations so that the government could give it thousands of euros a year," PN spokesman Ryan Callus said.

This latest scandal, he said, followed on the Cafe Premier, the Australia Hall, the Gaffarena debacle and others. He said that all these scandals carries the name of Joseph Muscat as he is responsible for the Government Property Division.
