The only surviving Vulcan Bomber, formerly of the Royal Air Force, made its final flight today, eight years after an expensive restoration project had returned it to the sky.

The Vulcan to the Sky Trust, which owns the huge delta-wing plane, said its age and withdrawal of technical support made its future unviable.

The Vulcan first flew in 1952 and was the RF’s main nuclear bomber during the cold war. It flew combat missions over the Falkland Islands and is tragically remembered in Malta after one of them crashed over Zabbar.
