I refer to the letter by Paul Cassar from Victoria, ‘Gozo needs a shuttle service’ (October 20).

About two years ago, I was putting together a consortium of prominent local and foreign businessmen who all wished to run the service of a fast ferry like the one in the picture above, able to carry just 72 passengers, between Senglea, Customs House, Sliema Ferries, Buġibba and Mġarr in Gozo and back, a trip that would take just over one hour each way.

We studied the project very well but came to the conclusion that the fare would be too high unless it was subsidised heavily by the government.

Furthermore, no tourists would use this ferry because day trips organised by the tourism industry include a package with buses on both islands and the ferry and that would work out much cheaper. A previous ferry service of this nature years ago had proved this.

However, we would still be willing to help provided the financials work well.
