The Johnnie Walker Cup final, for the second year in succession open to Gold Class trotters only, will be raced at the Marsa Racetrack on Sunday afternoon.

The distance is 2,140m with autostart.

This year the organisers had an entry of 19 more horses than 2014 taking part in the championship. In fact, an extra qualifying heat, for a total of five races held during the racing programmes of October 2 and 4, were required to determine the ten finalists.

The total prize money for the Johnnie Walker Cup is 1,600 euros with the winner getting 900 euros. The Johnnie Walker trophy dates back to 1939. Last year’s winner was New Star DK, driven by Noel Baldacchino.

Four other trophies were commissioned for the occasion and the winning horse will also get a commemorative blanket and Johnnie Walker products.

In a statement, the Malta Racing Club showed its appreciation to sponsors M. Demajo for their support in organising the championship.

“Thanks to our sponsors the Johnnie Walker Cup champion-ship has established itself as one that horse owners and drivers look forward to along the season,” the club said.

The ten finalist horses are the following:

1. Radjah de Marzy (Patrick Spiteri); 2. One Photo (Charles Debono); 3. Nashville Dancer (Andrew Farrugia); 4. Ourasi Diams (Emmanuel Fenech); 5. Ronson Cloc (Carmelo Farrugia); 6. Seul En Tete (Charles Camilleri); 7. Pacific Joy (Anthony Bartolo); 8. Signe (James Carabott); 9. Big Ben (Salvu Cutajar); 10. Cool Caviar (Julian Farrugia).
