Ferrero: Reports in Italy yesterday said that a court in Rome had seized over €1m worth of assets belonging to Sampdoria club owner Massimo Ferrero on suspicion of tax evasion. However, Ferrero denied the allegations and said he was prepared to take legal action to clear his name. “False, misleading and seriously detrimental to the image of Massimo Ferrero are the reports of ‘concealment and destruction of accounting documents’ referred to by ANSA,” a club statement said.

FA Cup: Salford City will be dreaming of a giant-killing against Notts County when they make their bow in the first round of the FA Cup. And the ‘famous five’ will be preparing for another big cup day when League Two club Notts County visit Moor Lane on the weekend of November 6-9.

German Cup shock: Third-tier club Erzgebirge Aue staged a big upset in the German Cup second round yesterday, stunning Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at home with a goal late in the second half to advance.
