Name: Nissan Gripz.

Debut: 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Appearance: ‘Faintly mad’ would probably cover it. If Lamborghini did SUVs, they’d probably still be less mental than the Gripz. Nissan calls it ‘emotional geometry’ design. We love the raised points over the front wheels, the angular contrasting line at the hinge of the front door and the awesome two-tone paint job. Drive this down the street and heads will turn so fast the local hospital will be swamped with crooked necks.

Prediction: Sadly, you won’t be able to drive it down any street, anywhere. Nissan won’t build it, probably following pleas from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Injuries to Necks. Although the flicked duck-tail spoiler is a to-die-for nod back to the 240Z, and elsewhere the car looks forward to new design themes, there’s no future for the Gripz.

Rating: 9/10.
