Martin Bugelli’s debut novel, Iż-Żejt f’Qiegħ l-Ilma, is being launched during this year’s edition of the National Book Festival. In this first novel, the author interweaves real events which occurred in the history of the Maltese Islands with the story of a simple girl brought up in a nun’s convent, whose life is turned upside down by the events of a cold night in April 1971, just after the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows in Valletta.

The novel is being published by Kite Group; this is the first time the publishers are venturing into original fiction written in Maltese. The public is welcome to the book launch on November 5, during which excerpts from the book will be read. A book-signing session will follow.
