Ahead of the second annual LGBTI Community Awards, Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), has revealed this year’s nominees.

Each nominee is being rewarded for being a positive role model within the LGBTI community in Malta over the past year, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

There are two nominees for each of the six awards, namely: entertainer – Ira Losco and Ray Calleja; community event – 2015 Pride March and Bordello; business – AXM Malta and the government’s principal permanent secretary Mario Cutajar; media – Peppi Azzopardi and Alison Bezzina; politician – Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli and Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Arnold Cassola; and NGO – Gender Liberation and MGRM.

The results will be announced on November 7 at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in Attard. The evening will start with a reception, followed by dinner and a party.

“Last year’s debut event has fostered work with other local NGOs to raise awareness of LGBTI issues that need to be addressed in our community,” ARC president Norman Shaw said.

“Now we look forward to celebrating those people who have made a tangible difference to the community and who will continue to do so in the years to come.”
