Following studies to identify the most common visual challenges experienced by drivers, Carl Zeiss Vision has created DriveSafe lenses.

Newly-developed Luminance Design Technology (LDT) gives wearers improved vision in low light conditions such as dawn or dusk, rainfall, misty days or at night – situations where drivers claim to feel mostly insecure and stressed. When visibility is poor, one tends to get tired more quickly and reacts slower. LDT takes into account the size of the pupils in poor light, thus resulting in better vision.

Zeiss uses a new coating for DriveSafe lenses which takes into account many different situations during one’s journey when the eyes are constantly being faced with glare.

The new DuraVision DriveSafe Coating offers the same hardness and cleaning properties as the DuraVision Premium coat, but features a different kind of anti-reflective coating. This new coating has been specifically developed to reflect certain wavelengths between 400 and 450 nm which form part of the blue light spectrum and are emitted in particular by oncoming car headlamps and LED light sources such as street lighting. This resulted in up to a 64 per cent reduction in glare compared to a classic premium coating from Zeiss.

Driving demands a high level of attention from drivers, as most of the time they need a broad view of the road in order to evaluate traffic and road conditions.. The new Zeiss Drivesafe Lens design makes it easier for progressive lens wearers to quickly refocus between the roads ahead, the dashboard and the rear view or side mirrors.

This new design also features optimised distance and intermediate viewing zones, so as to reduce the need for horizontal head movement.

DriveSafe lenses offer up to 14 per cent larger distance zone and up to 64 per cent wider intermediate area without compromising the near reading part.

These lenses, however, are not just good for the road: one can wear them at work or home.

Zeiss DriveSafe, as well as the entire range of high-end Zeiss optical lenses, are available from selected leading optical shops in Malta. For more information, contact 2381 1000, send an e-mail to info@classoptical.com or visit the Facebook page Zeiss Optical Malta.
