Updated - Trade unions are objecting after the Malta Tourism Authority ordered its employees to stop working from home and return to the office with immediate effect.

The General Workers’ Union and the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin have filed an industrial dispute over what they say is a unilateral decision by the MTA.

MTA sources said the employees have been directed to ignore the MTA’s directive and to continue working from home.

The Ministry of Tourism said there had been no reduction in the teleworking programme.

It said the Malta Tourism Authority was making sure that those eligible for teleworking would benefit from the programme, but abuses had to end.

In a statement today, PN spokesman Antoine Borg expressed concern at the revision.
