Works on the gate area of the Citadel and ditch in Victoria, Gozo, have picked up again, as these pictures issued by the Ministry of Gozo show.

The works have included excavation of the ditch, revealing the original entrance of the walled town, and a long buried sally port.

The discoveries have been incorporated in the project.

The works include rehabilitation of two ancient reservoirs which will be turned into visitors' centre. There is easier access to the ditch.

The project follows extensive restoration of the bastions which started in 2010.

Photo below is an artist's impression, issued last year, of how the Citadel entrance will look.
