Former police inspector Daniel Zammit will be summoned to the next hearing of the murder case of Neville Baldacchino, to testify whether he was aware that the crime scene - a house in Qormi - had been converted into a block of apartments.

The request was made by lawyer Edward Gatt, who is appearing parte civile for the Baldacchino family.

Mr Zammit had prosecuted in the case. Mr Baldacchino was allegedly shot dead by Stephen Caruana in 2008.

In view of the fact that the case will most probably end up tried by a jury and jury members are usually taken to view the crime scene, Dr Gatt asked the court to summon Mr Zammit to testify whether he knew that the crime scene had been eradicated completely and replaced with a block of apartments.

Mr Zammit, 35, is currently embroiled in controversy because of the speed with which his boarding out from the police force was handled and the equally fast way he was handed a €60,000 consultancy role with Enemalta, an appointment the Energy Minister eventually stopped.

An inquiry report by retired judge Michael Mallia had established that Mr Zammit had business relations with Joe Gaffarena in the months after Mr Baldacchino's murder.

The accused, Mr Caruana, is married to Mr Gaffarena's daughter, Romina.
