It would appear that we are close to seeing the end of the building of the Coast Road. However, what good does this do when we still have a lot of drivers who are hell bent on driving on the outside (overtaking) lane, thus holding up all the traffic?

Before we even get to talking about what needs to be done to the road infrastructure, why do we not embark on educating drivers that the outside lane is only to be used for overtaking and not for leisurely driving?

Whatever happened to traffic police with their fancy bikes? Why can’t these members of the corps (and traffic wardens) be utilised to patrol all the dual carriageways and stop anybody driving on the outside lane, pointing out that they should not be there?

Surely in this modern day and age a warning could be given and if the driver persists, then a fine imposed.

Talking of fines, when are we going to adopt on-the-spot fines? Surely this will be a very good deterrent. It also keeps the police on the road, where they should be, instead of wasting their time in court. I cannot believe that this system cannot be monitored to ensure that no corruption takes place.

Can we not install TV cameras where it is known that people double park and issue fines in the same way that we use speed cameras?

Can we not install cameras to oversee bus lanes? Dummy cameras can be used, with the real cameras being installed at random places on the road. Is this so difficult? Local councils used this method very successfully in the past in the UK.

These are only a few of measures that can be taken up in the short term, and they would work! Has the government, through the Ministry of Transport, got the will to implement these measures?  Don’t hold your breath.
