I took this photo on September 25 while witnessing a very professional rescue of a person who had fallen off the rocky cliffs above Xlendi.

The AFM helicopter came in and carefully weighed up thesituation. It then lowered amedical person down to the injured climber.

The helicopter stood off and waited for instructions and then came down again and lifted the injured person from the cliffs, flying him or her away to hospital.

About 15 minutes later the helicopter returned and picked up the medical person who had been lowered earlier.

The whole operation was very professionally conducted and one cannot but admire the skills of the pilot and team from the AFM Air Wing.

In these days when people in Malta (and the UK for that matter) need but a small opportunity to complain about taxes spent on ‘defence and security’, the essential work carried out by the Armed Forces of Malta covers many operations that probably go unrecorded to most of the island’s population. I am glad to be able to show the positive side of the AFM.
