The Armed Forces of Malta will over the coming five years spend €38 million on the purchase of a new, large offshore patrol boat and €7 million on an upgrade of the current offshore patrol boat (P61) including new engines.

Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said €7 million will be spend on a new robot and van for use by the army's bomb disposal section.

Some of the funds will come from the EU.

The AFM will next year also spend €14 million on a third new helicopter and €15 million on a new fixed wing aircraft.

Work will also start next year on the building of a training school in Pembroke.
