The Marsa Scout Group organised its yearly camp in the vicinity of the San Luċjan Tower in Marsaxlokk.

The site was made up of 31 camps. Camp chief group scout leader Alex Cutajar and his deputy, group scout leader Josef Camilleri, were in charge of setting up all the equipment needed.

The beavers, led by beaver scout leader Adolf Simler, his assistant and helpers, took part in crafts-related activities and games, Mass celebrations and the organisation of dinner for parents. They also baked cookies and took part in a camp fire.

Cub scout leader Paul Camilleri, his assistant and helpers from the Pack Section organised a four-day programme for cubs, featuring crafts, skills, badge work activities, games, swimming and biscuit baking.

The three Sixes competed for a shield and took part in a camp fire, during which eight cubs were presented with the Gold Arrow.

The Troop Section, under the charge of scout leader Gilbert Savona and his two assistants, made preparations for the camp, which was themed Myths and Legends. They built a castle model, played night games and baked cakes and pancakes.

The Venture Unit played a considerable part in the assembling and disassembling of the camp site. Under the direction of venture scout leader Kenneth Vella and his assistant, the unit built a raft, on which various activities were held.

The rovers, under the direction of rover scout leader Marlon Tanti, worked tirelessly to transport, assemble and disassemble the camp equipment.

They were also involved in the setting up of the gateway, the administration of the tuck shop, helping in the kitchen, holding sentry during the night and organising games and a quiz on group day.

A reunion camp for ex-members of the group was also held. Fr Anton Dimech, the group’s chaplain, celebrated Mass every day and led morning and evening prayers.

Sunday Mass was in memory of assistant group scout leader Antoine Vella, who passed away recently. Family members read a poem he wrote in 2004.
