How do you get to university and why that mode of transport?

I drive, but today I happened to come late and there was no parking so I returned home and came back with my parents. Justine Ciappara, B.Criminology 1st year.

I use public transport, as well as other means such as getting lifts with friends. This is because: a) I have yet to get my driving licence; b) in this way I have no parking problems that could make me arrive even more late; and c) sometimes (though rarely) it may reduce stress rather than create it. Fleur Abela, LL.B (Hons) 3rd year.

I use my car as I’m often late and it gets me there faster. I feel like a part of me is missing without my car. Annie Camilleri, B.Humanities 2nd year.

What problem do you think needs to be fixed the most?

There is need for more parking spaces. Justine Ciappara

Public transport needs to get better and students need to start using bikes and motorcycles, for example. The problem is that there is no respect on the road and a lot of students tell you “I would rather come using my car than come using a motorbike and end up risking getting hurt”. Fleur Abela

Parking at University, and public transport because it’s such a headache to catch a bus. Annie Camilleri

Do you think carpooling is a viable solution?

Yes, because it reduces traffic and the the amount of cars at University. Justine Ciappara

It is a viable solution but I do not think it is one that the Maltese student population at the moment are willing to take on, especially when one considers that a lot of problems arise when it comes to reaching an agreement with each other. Fleur Abela

Yes and no, it depends on where your relatives and friends live and are headed, since some areas are more congested than others.

But it would help if more people carpooled. Annie Camilleri
