Singer Jim Diamond has died, aged 63.

The singer-songwriter was best known for hits including I Won’t Let You Down, which he sang as the lead singer in the trio PhD, and I Should Have Known Better, which went to number one in 1984.

He was also known for his involvement in charity singles.

Diamond sang on a cover of You'll Never Walk Alone with The Crowd to raise money for the Bradford City stadium fire in 1985.

He also provided vocals for a cover of Let It Be as part of Ferry Aid, alongside artists Boy George, Paul McCartney and Kate Bush

Born in Glasgow's East End, Diamond was influenced by the voices of Ray Charles and Otis Redding and joined his first band at the age of 14.
