Practice for this year’s edition of the Mdina Grand Prix got under way this afternoon in a small circuit just outside the historic capital.

A wide range of classic cars, in various categories, will be in action again tomorrow for the qualifying sessions between 9am and 4pm and the races on Sunday.

The Concours d'Elegance was held today in Mdina's Cathedral Square. The programme also included a hillclimb in Mellieha.

This is the first automotive event following last Sunday’s crash, which left 28 people injured during Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina.

Asked about the safety measures in place, the police said that the event was covered by all necessary permits and documentation.

Visitors around the temporary track today could see tyre barriers with concrete barriers behind them on sections of the track. Spectators will be located slightly above the cars.
