An Eritrean migrant managed to flee from Malta to Sicily on a dinghy skippered by a Maltese man and then travelled all the way to Norway, where he was arrested and sent back to the island, a court heard today.

Idris Redwan, 33, raised suspicion in Norway and was sent back to Malta after fingerprinting showed that he had left from Malta.

He was taken to court this morning and kept behind bars.

Also repatriated to Malta were a Romanian, Rodoslaw Todorov, 31, and a Bulgarian, Claudio Gabriel Cretoiu, 27, who were arrested on a truck as it was driven off the catamaran from Malta.

The Romanian, who is a deliveryman, was driving, while that Bulgarian was hiding in the back. Although the two are EU nationals, they have been accused of leaving Malta without informing the authorities.
