Maltese sailing pioneer Arthur Podesta has passed away.

Podesta, who made a substantial contribution towards the development of sailing as a sport in Malta, was also a long-standing member of the Royal Malta Yacht Club committee, having served for many years. He acted in various roles, including that of commodore.

Podesta was also synonymous with the Rolex Middle Sea Race. He participated in every edition since the inaugural race in 1968 and was also a member of the crew on Josian, winner of the race in 1968.

Podesta also gave his contribution in organising past editions of the Valletta Boat Show.
