A same-sex couple has applied to adopt a child, Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli has revealed in Parliament.

Replying to a parliamentary question by Godfrey Farrugia (PL), she said 61 couples had entered into a civil union since the relevant legislation was enacted, 56 in Malta and five in Gozo.

Ten couples registered their civil union, made abroad, in Malta, and 12 same-sex couples married abroad also had their status registered here.

Thirty-six changed the gender on their birth registration following the enactment of the Gender Identity Act.
