The magisterial inquiry into the major accident of Sunday’s Paqpaqli għall-Istrina is nowhere near being concluded as court experts continue to sift through evidence that could shed light on what happened on that ill-fated afternoon, the Times of Malta has learnt.

Sources close to the investigation said experts and investigators yesterday continued to speak to eyewitnesses and gather more footage of the incident. “There is so much to go through that there seems to be no end in sight,” one source said.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera continued to hear evidence in connection with the accident, in which a supercar skidded into a crowd of spectators, injuring 28.

Ten of the casualites were still being treated in hospital yesterday.

But a 38-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter who were critically injured in the crash were released from intensive care on Tuesday and their condition has continued to improve.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Children said yesterday it was organising guidance sessions for children who had witnessed the incident.

The debriefing sessions are being organised in collaboration with the Child Guidance Clinic within the Health Ministry

Parents who feel that their children are experiencing trauma as a result of what they saw, and need this service, should contact the Office of the Commissioner on 2148 5180 between 8.30am and 4.30pm for more information.
