The controversial new facility for patrol boats at the AFM maritime base in Marsamxett has been floodlit, casting the bastion behind it in shadow.

The huge structure, criticized for its size, will facilitate maintenance work on patrol boats which need to be lifted out of the water.

It is part of a €4.8 million upgrade of the base that will include an onsite border control room, staff accommodation, training and fitness facilities.

The main aim of the investment is to improve quick response capabilities.
