On October 3 at 5pm I took my dog down to Pembroke ranges by the sea as I usually do, so my pet could get some exercise and fresh air. Many local residents frequent this area for the same reason.

On this occasion there were some hunters also present and my dog being the playful type immediately ran towards a particular hunter’s dogs in a playful manner. I immediately called him back and he did so obediently.

I took him by the water where he jumped in to swim and play with his ball. Some 10 minutes later the same hunter was passing by a few metres behind me. I did not notice him until my dog darted off to play with his dogs once again.

The hunter turned livid and accused my dog of being aggressive. He picked up a large rock and hurled it at my dog, missing him by just a few feet. He claimed my pet was attacking his dogs and if I did not put a leash on him immediately he would proceed to shoot it right there and then proceed to shoot me!

The man was serious and I was shaken. I took my dog and hurried back to my car.

The hunting season is open again and so is the bullying and egotistical aggression of some hunters. Some of it includes thinking it is okay to deliver death threats to civilians trying to get some fresh air on their weekend break.
