The PN has raised a number of questions on the ongoing process to privatise the Gozo Hospital and called upon the government to be transparent.

Gozo shadow minister Chris Said said that while the government had already announced that it had started negotiations with Vitalis Global Healthcare as the preferred bidder, the 900 employees at the Gozo hospital were being kept in the dark about their future.

He said that there was a lot of uncertainty about the future of the employees and the public health service in Gozo as the government was not giving any information.

He said that unlike Malta, where private healthcare was available, the Gozo hospital was the only place where Gozitans can get their health service.

“Joseph Muscat should practice what he preaches and tell Gozitans what their future healthcare system would be like under private management.”

Health Shadow Minister Claudette Buttigieg said that although the government was conducting talks with Vitalis, it had now transpired that the same group was still looking for investors to join in the Malta project.

She said that this situation did not augur well for the future prospects of Gozitan health care.
